[35mm] Sessions
[35mm] Sessions is a project of creating simple music videos for artists. On a location, in a point of time, we record audio and video - and the final product is an acoustic session. I have been looking forward to this project for a while, and finally - it is here.

Anya G - Wake up Call | 35mm Sessions
Her own song, Wake up Call, but in an Acoustic arrangement. The song is officially not yet out, but for [35mm] Sessions, we got the acoustic version of it, and I can’t wait to hear the original.
It was hard to decide what song to pick for the second video, only because she really writes a lot of music that just can’t wait to be recorded and shown to the public.

Anya G - Prisoner (Miley Cyrus Cover) | 35mm Sessions
The session with Anya G was a long time in the making and planning, but was shot and edited extremely fast. The first song out was actually the second one filmed in the same location. The challenge was to get it to look different from the first song, yet getting it to fit with the song.
I love her voice and her vocal abilities, and when she suggested she wants to do a cover of a song from Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa, I knew she could pull it of in her own style and own it. Having that in mind, I created such a scene that would fit the song.

Aklea Neon Behind the Scenes | 35mm Sessions
A glimpse of how it was on the shoot with Aklea Neon.
We mention it a few times, but it was cold, we got the last sunny day of 2020, but for the second video we had a lot of technical issues due to the cold and not being prepared. Luckily, the people surrounding us were always in a good mood, keeping everything bearable and giving a good vibe, as you can see in the video.

Aklea Neon - Da Mi Je | 35mm Sessions
Second Aklea Neon video is from her song Da Mi Je. The location we had helped a lot with the shots, and I was blown away how beautiful the location was. It was shot on the last sunny day of the year, combined with the last leaves on the trees that give the autumn vibe.
Sun was setting very fast, and we didn’t have much time to re-record, just bare enough time to get fixed shots, a gimbal shot and few minutes for photos. I loved editing this video as well as listening it for the 100th time while editing.
What everybody that saw Aklea in a concert told me: you just need to hear her live to experience her energy - and during these COVID times, I think this is the closes I can get to translate her energy and music in the medium of video.

Fani Solomun - Svaki Kut | 35mm Sessions
I have known Fani for years, and I knew she could sing, but didn’t know she could write songs as well. During the holidays of 2020/2021, we managed to shoot an acoustic version of her song Svaki Kut. The location worked perfectly for the feel of her song - a caffee in Varaždin called Living Rooms. Everything was rehearsed and arranged within few days, and shot in an afternoon. While the original song was great, I love the feel we got with this session.

Aklea Neon - Shika Shika | 35mm Sessions
Aklea Neon has been my muse for years, and I knew I had to shoot a session with her. She sent me the demo version of Shika Shika, and I just knew, it had to be fire. In my mind, I connected the song with India, especially the town of Varanasi, and remembered that they have fire ceremonies. Aklea knew wondaful people who could perform alongside her music.
While usually while doing one-takes we do it 3-4 times, this really had to be a one take. The reason is that we needed only a hint of blue in the sky, and could only have the fire on for 3 times: once for the video, once for photos and the last time for the slow-motion B-roll.

Ivan Bobić - Raspašoj | 35mm Sessions
Second video shot the same day as Nestašluk. From the beginning, I had a clear vision of what I wanted from this song. The concert hall right after sunset when everything turns blue with a spotlight on the pianist. I heard the song few days before the shoot, and after listening a few times, I knew that this was the right direction to go for the song.

Ivan Bobić - Nestašluk | 35mm Sessions
Ivan Bobić - a pianist and composer from Varaždin that was actually the first person I recorded, but didn’t yet call it 35mm Sessions. It was recorded during May of 2020, amidst the COVID lockdown. I was working on a different project in the National Theatre in Varaždin, when I head him play in an empty concert hall. I knew that I need to do a video with him.
After shooting and editing the first two videos, I knew I wanted to work with music and videos, and only few months after I came up with 35mm Sessions.

Second [35mm] Session recorded with Lara Demarin, on the same day, only 50 meters away. This was the original idea when we brainstormed about this session, and I knew it needs to be overlooking the city at dusk, when the street lamps just turn on and the sky is still blue.

Lara Demarin - Let Me Love You (Mario Cover) | 35mm Sessions
First [35mm] Session recorded is with Lara Demarin. We actually had this in plan since March of 2020, but as lockdowns began, we had to postpone everything. Six months later, we finally managed to record our first session. The song she picked for covering was by Mario - Let Me Love You.
